Distinguished Eagle Lapel Pins
The Robbins Company made the original lapel pins for the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. A spinlock and hinge was used to attach the pin to the coat lapel. The gold content was 14 karat. Soon a single stem pole located in the center of the pin replaced the spinlock and hinge. It proved to be unstable, as it would spin on its stem pole. The next pin was made with a single stem pole at the top of the pin.
In 1978, the gold content was changed to 1/10-10k and the pin was attached with two stem poles. Following next was a single stem pole at the top of the pin. (An error was produced where the stem pole was located at the bottom of the pin)
In 1999 brought Custom Fine Jewelry (CFJ) manufacturing to the table. The design was slightly changed, but not significantly. Laser technology was used to sharpen design.
In 2007, Stange Company was awarded the manufacturing contract. The gold content remained 1/10-10k, but the design was changed. Then in 2013, the lapel pin design was changed again. The words “Distinguished Eagle” was placed on the pin for the first time.
Each pin showcased below is different because of the gold content hallmark and the manufacturer logo.
